Book Review: The High Priestess

“She was beautiful in her rage as her bare feet dragged along the moss-filled banks next to the river. Her hands shook, and even from this distance, I knew that it wasn’t out of sorrow - it was out of rage.”

-The High Priestess, Erin Mcluckie Moya

I completely devoured this book and the series. I found it through bookstagram and got an ARC copy of the High Priestess. This book was amazing! It had everything you could want, witches, demons, secret plots, saving the world from deadly magick and spice… lots of spice. It followed up the first two books but now from the perspectives of Marie, Corinne's french friend, and Cortland, a lust demon. As Marie travels back to France for her grandmother’s funeral, Cort follows her to scope out a pairing that would secure the ley lines.

The plot of the book was very easy to follow and kept connected to the previous books but had its own unique story. The spice and plot I felt were about a 50/50 split which worked very well. The cliffhanger at the end was crazy. Even though we were warned that it would be a cliffhanger it shocked me just as much cause you do not see it coming.

The characters were great, we got hints about them and their personalities and in this edition, we get to see them interact with the world around them. It keeps the same format as the first two books with a first-person perspective switching between the two characters. Marie is a french witch who must go back to her village and face the family she left behind. There is an emotional journey Marie goes through as she fights with herself and her element to become the witch she is meant to be. Cort is the green-eyed bad boy every bookish girl falls in love with. The two have an enemies to maybe lovers dynamic and it is enjoyable to watch them slowly give into their feelings.

It is set in a modern-day with phones, texting and all that jazz. You do not see many witch stories set in the present day so it is interesting to see a demon interacting with a phone. The world is detailed and allows the reader to have a clear picture of the world.

Thank you to Erin for sending me an ARC copying and introducing me to the Tarot Club world. This book is perfect for fantasy lovers wanting some spice and romance. I truly loved this series and cannot wait for the next installment because that cliffhanger was not fair! The series keeps getting better and better and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here. :)
